Jason Safko sets a OFP trap at Olive Branch Elementary School to
monitor tiger mosquitoes May 27, 2008. |
| Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5) |
- City wide activity remains a 1.
- We received .46 inches of rain last week.
- Trap counts were lower this week. Complaint calls are almost non
existent for this time of year. This should change with stable
weather and weekly rain.
|
| Surveillance and Control |
- 7 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 706
mosquitoes were caught. The average number of mosquitoes per trap
was 101. This was 1/2 the average we saw last week.
- 5 OFP style traps were set this week, a total of 71 tiger
mosquitoes were caught. The average number of tiger mosquitoes per
trap was 14. This is up slightly from last week. Conditions remain
favorable for further increases in tiger mosquito populations.
- Once again no truck spraying was conducted this week due to the
poor weather conditions and minimal complaints about mosquitoes.
Information on spray activities is posted on the Mosquito Spray
Hotline (393-8666 press 1 when prompted). Citizens can call and
listen to a recorded message to find out what areas are scheduled
for mosquito spraying.
|
| Service Requests |
- We did not receive any service requests this week.
|
| Federal Activities |
- Craney Island Dredge Material Maintenance Area things are
progressing well. Two of the three containment cells are active and
should not produce mosquitoes at this time. The third cell was
ditched earlier this month and it is being closely monitored for
mosquitoes after each rain event. The contractor treated some
ditches this week on Corp property and 25 acres on the Navy Fuel
Depot property last week.
