in Park Manor May 22, 2008. |
| Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5) |
- City wide activity remains a 1.
- We received .71 inches of rain last week. Cool temperatures and
high winds seem to be keep mosquitoes
from bothering people.
- Trap counts were way up this week despite the less than ideal
trapping conditions. Complaint calls remain low for this time of
year.
|
| Surveillance and Control |
- 6 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 1,243
mosquitoes were caught. The average number of mosquitoes per trap
was 207. This was dramatically up from last week. The bulk of the
mosquitoes caught were at the City Landfill trap site and are not
impacting the neighborhoods at this time.
- 5 OFP style traps were set this week, a total of 61 tiger
mosquitoes were caught. The average number of tiger mosquitoes per
trap was 12. This represents almost 3 times the number of tiger
mosquitoes for the same time period last year. Conditions are
favorable for further increases in tiger mosquito populations.
- Crews were out larviciding all of Cradock, West Cradock,
Highland Park, Fairville, Glendale, and part of Highland Biltmore.
- No truck spraying was conducted this week due to the poor
weather conditions and minimal complaints about mosquitoes.
Information on spray activities is posted on the Mosquito Spray
Hotline (393-8666 press 1 when prompted). Citizens can call and
listen to a recorded message to find out what areas are scheduled
for mosquito spraying.
- A small problem area in Park Manor was treated with a residual
barrier spray this week.
|
| Service Requests |
- Service requests did not increase this week as expected. We had
1 service requests this week.
|
| Special Notes |
- Tips for enjoying a holiday weekend with out mosquito bites.
- - Wear light colored, loose fitting, long sleeve clothing.
- - Wear CDC approved insect repellant before entering
mosquito infested areas.
- - This is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning out in
the yard. Clean out the rain gutters, keep hedges trimmed back
to allow air circulation, and most importantly remember to empty
all water around the house.
