Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • City wide activity is a 1.
  • Once again we received close to 1 inch of rain last week. The cool temperatures and high winds slowed the mosquitoes down for a few days, but as of Wednesday this week activity was increasing rapidly.
  • Trap counts were not an accurate measure of the true mosquito activity due to the high winds and cooler temperatures. The mosquitoes are out and getting worse every day, especially the tiger mosquitoes. Residents must get out and dump out all standing water around the home.
Surveillance and Control
  • 7 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 66 mosquitoes were caught. The average number of mosquitoes per trap was 9.
  • 5 OFP style traps were set this week (2 were damaged by the high winds), no tiger mosquitoes were caught.
  • We sprayed just over 896 acres for adult mosquitoes this week. Additional areas may be treated later this week. Information on spray activities is posted on the Mosquito Spray Hotline (393-8666 press 1 when prompted). Citizens can call and listen to a recorded message to find out what areas are scheduled for mosquito spraying.
Service Requests
  • We have had 3 service requests this week.
  • Service requests should increase next week in advance of the Memorial Day weekend.
