Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • City wide activity is a 1.
  • We received close to 5 inches of rain in the past three weeks. The rain coupled with warmer temperatures have helped to jump start the mosquito season.
Surveillance and Control
  • 8 CDC style light trapswere set this week, a total of 301 mosquitoes were caught. The average number of mosquitoes per trap was 38. Two spray trucks are set up and ready to spray first of next week if needed.
  • Many areas of standing water are actively breeding mosquitoes. We are actively inspecting and treating standing water city wide at this time.
Service Requests
  • We have had 3 service requests to date, all 3 were reports of standing water and possible mosquito breeding.
  • Complaint calls are expected to increase next week.
Federal Activities
  • Staff continue to meet and coordinate activities; we are currently evaluating conditions and adjusting control strategies to provide the most effective results.
Special Note
  • NEAT Fest is this weekend Saturday May 3, 2008 at the North Landing (Old Portside). Activities start at 11 a.m. We will be there, come out and see our new mosquito education display and talk with staff.
