| Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5) |
- The mosquito activity is a 2 this week. The increase in mosquito
populations is a direct result from the rainfall the past two weeks.
The Churchland area of the city has experienced the first
significant increase of salt marsh mosquitoes since 2004. Tiger
mosquito populations continue to increase due to the additional
rainfall and warm temperatures. Citizens need to be very vigilant in
dumping out all standing water to prevent mosquitoes around the
home.
|
| Surveillance |
- Rainfall last week averaged 1.76 inches, this was the second
week we averaged more than an inch of rain.
- 7 CDC style traps were set this week, with a total of 823
mosquitoes caught for an average of 118 per trap.
- 20 Omni-Directional Fay- Prince (OFP) were set this week, with a
total of 651 tiger mosquitoes for an average of 33 per trap. Tiger
mosquitoes increased again this week. We expect to see tiger
mosquitoes increase over the next few weeks.
