THE BUZZ

Volume 5, 17   (Week 31)

August 3, 2006

Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
  • The city remains extremely hot and dry. We received only 0.04 inches of rain last week. Mosquito breeding sites are decreasing as a result of the dry, hot weather.
  • Mosquito activity remains a 2 for most of the city.
Surveillance
  • 10 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 848 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 85 per trap. Trap counts were up slightly from last week.
  • 7 Gravid style traps were set this week, a total of 97 mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 14 per trap. Gravid trap counts are down from last week.
  • Hot dry conditions will further reduce the number of adult mosquitoes around.
  • No mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus this year.
Service Requests
  • We received no complaint calls this week.
