Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
- Trap counts increased this week, but complaint calls remain low.
Mosquito activity remains at a (2) for this week. Cooler temperatures in
the forecast late this week should suppress mosquito populations.
Surveillance
- 9 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 895
mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 100 per trap. Trap counts
increased slightly from last week; the bulk of the increase was again
from mosquitoes that only feed on birds.
- 7 Gravid traps were set this week, a total of 161 mosquitoes were
caught, for an average of 23 per trap. Gravid trap counts decreased this
week. To date no mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus in
the City of Portsmouth.
Service Requests
- We received 1 complaint calls about mosquitoes this week.
Control
- Mosquito control crews have been seeking out and treating any
standing water from recent rain, many areas are drying up.
- Limited truck fogging is scheduled for this weekend. For more
