Mosquito Activity (Scale from 0 to 5)
- Mosquito activity decreased slightly this to a (2) for this week.
- Mosquito activity was lower this week due to the Air Force aerial
spraying in Churchland on Tuesday evening and truck fogging in all other
areas on Wednesday.
Surveillance
- Trap counts this week were from Monday night prior to mosquito spray
activities.
- 9 CDC style light traps were set this week, a total of 958
mosquitoes were caught, for an average of 107 per trap. Trap counts were
up from last week.
- 7 Gravid traps were set this week, a total of 97 mosquitoes were
caught, for an average of 17 per trap. Gravid trap counts are still low
for this time of year. To date no mosquitoes have tested positive for
West Nile Virus in the City of Portsmouth.
Service Requests
- We received 7 complaint calls about mosquitoes this week, many were
to report possible mosquito breeding in standing water.
Control
- Very little water remains from the rain this week. Crews treated
problem areas earlier this week.
- Truck fogging is scheduled for parts of the city to control adult
mosquitoes. Weather permitting we will finish spraying the entire city
by Friday.
